Made some progress for NES ROM images), but for now those headers are Hopefully in the future things will change (Nestopia has AlthoughĮmulators should handle that sort of data on their end, (N64 emulators do,Īnyway) NES and Lynx emulators don't, instead requiring those headers on
#NES PACK 655 ROMS HOW TO#
Only present to tell emulators how to properly run a ROM image. These headers are not part of the original game's data, and are A set number ofīytes, known as headers, were written to the tops of all NES and Lynx ROM

and these are just for the NES roms.īack when NES and Lynx ROM images were first being dumped, the emphasis GoodNES should also have a tool to organize roms, separating them by region, unlicensed, hacks, translations, baddumps etc, just incase this was a consideration for the database.

This procedure would at least ensure every user will have almost identical romsets, or better yet if possible add support for the import scanner to be able to skip header when computing for the crc just like clrmame does. Goodnes can also fix headers on the NoIntro sets, there should only be handful that will not be supported and this would be easier to manually fix its headers then. it should be able to handle all roms it supports. If verifying each roms takes a long time, GoodNES should have a tool to fix headers-assuming that all the roms have the 16 bytes headers included(correct or just empty space, a lot of rom packs do not have headers, so this should be added manually ) since the tool will overwrite the 1st 16 bytes of each rom to fix header and remove bogus entries(Nia,Diskdude etc). For no-intro i have tested roms (on Fceumm page) and corrected the headers so i should only be missing only a few, mostly those based on mappers that are able to change mirroring on its own without the mapper id in header. Current RDB only detects 19,118 out of 22,094 roms from GoodNES sets.įor No-Intro only 2, 423 out of 2, 793 are detected.
